Shibori Resist Dyeing

Portland Fall 2026 is NOW OPEN

Kristine Berg
9:00 - 4:30
Sunday Sept 20
$205.00

Discover the magic of Shibori, a Japanese resist dyeing technique that transforms cloth through folding, binding, stitching, and clamping. In this hands-on workshop, you’ll explore a range of traditional methods—such as itajime, arashi, kumo, and stitched resist—to create beautifully patterned textiles with rich variation and depth.

Working with simple tools and dye,  you’ll experiment with different techniques and fabrics, learning how each approach produces its own unique language of pattern. There’s an element of surprise in every piece—no two results are ever the same.

This is a playful, exploratory class where curiosity is encouraged. You’ll leave with a collection of hand-made samples and a silk scarf along with the knowledge and confidence to continue dyeing on your own.

No prior experience necessary—just a willingness to experiment and enjoy the process.

Materials Fee $40 paid at beginning of class includes everything you need for the class
