A collagraph is a handmade relief printing plate constructed by collaging cardboard and other flat or textured materials together using PVA glue. We’ll use cardboard, a variety of tapes, vinyl, aluminum, plastics, and other recycled materials to create the relief plate. Then we’ll print multiple prints using different inks, and papers for printing. We will achieve varied results using techniques such as wiping, masking, and layering colors to create one of a kind monoprints each time we ink the plate and produce a print. We will talk about preserving our relief plates using varnish to extend the life of the collagraph plate for use at home. You will leave with multiple prints of your own design using the collagraph relief plate that you construct during class.
