In this basic assemblage workshop, you will learn how to create an eclectic, free standing shrine and a small book, starting with only two pieces of wood, canvas, and a few of your favorite treasures. While learning to unify newly created metal pieces and old found objects, we will work to create a gallery-quality unique, and personal shrine. Consider enshrining a favorite deity or ancestor, commemorating an important trip or event in your life, or perhaps allowing the materials to inspire your creativity. You will learn the nuts & bolts of assemblage, composition, cold connecting, and how to unite found objects to create a cohesive piece of art. I will share with you my favorite techniques for altering metal surfaces, including leaf printing, transfers & faux etching.
Finally, I will teach you how to make beautiful clay faces, and how to make a mold of just about anything. We will drill, sand, transfer, print, paint, sculpt, problem solve, punch & distress...but most importantly, we will have a blast! Build a new home for your found treasures and join us for a fun day of constructing these awesome, one-of-a-kind assemblages! No experience is necessary

4 OR 5 of your favorite photos, These will be used to transfer on to metal. They can be black & white or color. They should be high in contrast, a variety of sizes, 4 x 5 and smaller, and printed on a laser printer on inexpensive plain copy paper. No text. It is very important to use cheap plain copy paper. If you bring it to a copy store to have it printed, bring your own paper. They often print on fancy slick paper that will not work for this process.

Found objects To add to your shrine, just a few of your favorite special pieces. Please stay away from glass, stone, ceramic, or anything else that may be difficult to attach. This is a cold connection class so we won’t be using much glue, we will be attaching with nuts, bolts, screws & wire instead. I will be bringing metal punches that will make a hole in metal up to the thickness of a penny. If we can make a hole in it, we can attach it! It is possible to drill holes in glass, stone, or ceramic, but it requires special tools and more time than we have.
