Thread Bowl Fairy Lights

Portland Spring 2027 is NOW OPEN

$185.00

Note: a sewing machine is optional, depending on the chosen construction method
If you live locally, please bring your machine

These colorful thread bowls are easy to make and keep snippets and shreds of fiber and thread out of landfills. The bowls can be appreciated purely for their lacy, ethereal beauty, but make perfect votive light holders. They can be made in any size (within reason), by machine or by hand. Stitching by hand lets you integrate seed beads into your work, making your Fairy Light Bowls sparkle, while stitching by machine is faster and lets you easily incorporate repetitive, intricate stitches and patterns. Or take advantage of both methods: build the structural stitching by machine, then embellish with beads by hand.
Skill level: Confident beginners and up. Note: a sewing machine is optional, depending on the chosen construction method.

Materials Fee $15 paid at beginning of class includes:

Water soluble stabilizer,
a hoop,
plenty of thread snippets,
embroidery and/or sewing thread,
beads,
beading and embroidery needles,
a shaping form, sealant/stiffener, and a tea light.

Supplies Needed  to bring for Class:

Small scissors or thread snips
A sewing machine if you wish to sew by machine (Note: a few machines will be available by reservation)
Portable light (optional, but some of the classrooms at the Sheraton don’t have the best lighting).
