In Japan, the word Boro translates to "rag or tattered cloth" but in practice, Boro refers to the practice of repeatedly mending and reinforcing clothing and household textiles with scraps. Over time, these patchwork style items became a sort of historical record for the materials and even paper that passed through a family. The "waste nothing" aesthetic of true Boro textiles became highly prized and sought after by collectors and artists alike.
In this workshop, we'll create collage works mimicking the style of a Boro textiles and expanding on it through our own artistic interpretation. We'll cover a variety of options in composition, layering, color and material combinations, and options for substrates, while utilizing Konjac glue or paste from the traditional art of Japanese Momigami as our adhesive.
