Once again, Shwe Shwe plays a part in another of my Art & Soul Projects. Shwe Shwe, the much loved fabric in Southern Africa, was originally developed in Java and India. It travelled through European trade routes before getting to Africa and becoming the iconic symbol of Namibia (the then South West Africa). It was quickly accepted by the Herero women, and still today when you visit Southern Africa you will see Shwe Shwe used in clothing, handbags, shoes, hats, jewelry and so much more. Although this is a no sew project. there will be some hand stitching of embellishments ie: beads, fabric scraps, charms, and whatever you can think Of to attach to your howall.
