Learn the centuries-old techniques of Italian micro mosaics and discover how they can inspire contemporary artistic expression. Through guided instruction, students will create a micro mosaic pendant while mastering the foundations of Roman micro mosaics, gaining skills and confidence to incorporate this intricate at form into jewelry and beyond.
WORKSHOP DETAILS
What students will create:
Students will complete an heirloom-quality Italian micro mosaic pendant, learning the traditional process of cutting, shaping, and setting tiny glass tesserae in Roman stucco while developing a design that reflects their own artistic style.
General Skills Students Will Learn
Traditional Italian techniques
Cutting and shaping glass filati (glass threads)
Preparing Roman stucco
Understanding andamento (the flow of the pattern)
Color relationships
Designing the piece
Resources for continued learning
Level: Beginner/Intermediate
Prior experience required: NO
Materials Fee $75 paid at beginning of class includes:
Italian filati
Roman stucco
Micro mosaic tweezers ( especially for micro mosaics)
Bezel for micro mosaic
Micro mosaic file
Wood boards
I will bring some tools you can borrow to help save on supplies list cost.
